gta 5 story

Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 Rockstar North developed action-adventure video game released by Rockstar Games. It is the first major entry in the Grand Theft Auto series since the 2008 Grand Theft Auto IV. Based in Southern California’s fictional state of San Andreas, the single-player story follows three criminals and their efforts to commit heists under pressure from a government agency. The open world design allows players to freely roam the open countryside of San Andreas and Los Santos ‘ fictional, Los Angeles-based city.

Either from a third-person or first-person perspective, the game is played and its world is navigated on foot or by vehicle. Throughout the single player, players control the three lead protagonists and toggle between them during and outside missions. The story focuses on the scenes of the heist, and many missions involve shooting and gameplay driving. A “wanted” program controls law enforcement reaction violence against players committing crimes. The online multiplayer mode of the game, Grand Theft Auto Online, allows up to 30 players to engage in a variety of different cooperative and competitive game modes.

The development of the game started soon after the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and was shared among many of the Rockstar studios around the world. Many of their previous projects such as Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 were influenced by the development team and designed the game around three lead protagonists to innovate on their predecessors ‘ core structure. Much of the development work was the creation of the open world, and several team members carried out field research around California to capture the design team’s footage. The soundtrack of the game features an original score made up of a group of artists who have worked together for several years. It was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and Microsoft Windows in April 2015.

The game broke industry records for sales and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, receiving $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. It received widespread critical acclaim, with praise for its multiple character development, open world, gameplay and presentation. This did, however, cause controversy over its depiction of abuse and women. Considered one of the most essential titles of the seventh and eighth generation console gaming and among the best video games ever made, it received year-end accolades from several gaming publications including Game of the Year awards. It is the third best-selling video game of all time with more than 115 million copies shipped and one of the most profitable entertainment products of all time, with about $6 billion in revenue worldwide.

Composed of the open countryside area of San Andreas, including the fictional Blaine County and the fictional city of Los Santos, the setting is much larger in size than earlier entries in the series.[6][c] It can be fully explored without restriction after the start of the game, although the advancement of the plot unlocks more gameplay content.[8] The player character crouched behind a car during battle. The features of the head-up display can be seen on the camera.
During firefights, players can take cover behind items to avoid damage from opponents.
Players use melee attacks, firearms and explosives to battle enemies,[d] and may sprint, leap, swim or use vehicles to traverse the world.[e] In order to accommodate the scale of the environment, the game includes vehicle types that are absent in its predecessor Grand Theft Auto IV, such as fixed-wing aircraft.[11] In combat, auto-aim and cover systems may be used to assist enemies[12]. The meter enters a cool-down state and gradually recedes when players are shielded from the line of sight of the officers showing up on the mini-map.[16][h] The single-player mode enables players to control three characters: Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton— criminals whose stories interconnect as they complete tasks. Many missions are done with just one character, while others have two or three characters.[18] A directional compass on the HUD will toggle between characters at will outside the missions. The game will automatically switch characters during missions to achieve specific goals. The compass avatar of a character will flash red if it is in trouble and needs help, and flash white if it has a tactical advantage.[19] While players complete missions like any of the three protagonists, the more complex heist missions require assistance from AI-controlled accomplices with unique skill sets such as computer hacking and driving. If an accomplice survives a successful heist, they take a cut from the cash reward[20] and may be available for later missions with improvements in their unique skills.[21] Some heists have multiple strategies; in a holdup mission, players may either stealthily subjugate civilians with an incapacitating agent or storm the venue with guns drawn[22]. While skills improve through play, by default each character has a skill with expertise (e.g. Trevor’s flying skill).[23] The eighth “extra” skill determines the strength of each character’s ability to perform a unique ability. Michael enters bullet time in combat, Franklin slows down while driving, and Trevor deals twice as much damage to enemies while taking half as much in combat.[24] A meter of each character’s HUD depletes when the ability is used and regenerates when players perform skillful actions (e.g. drifting in vehicles like Franklin or headshots like Michael)[25]. Each character has a smartphone to contact friends, start activities and access an internet in-game.[26] The internet allows players to trade stocks through a stock market.[27] Players can buy properties such as garages and businesses, upgrade weapons and vehicles in the arsenal of each character. Players can also visit places like movie theaters and strip clubs. Players can also customize their appearance by buying outfits, haircuts and tattoos.[28] Plot See also: Grand Theft Auto V characters list Michael Townley, Trevor Philips, and Brad Snider take part in a botched robbery in Ludendorff, North Yankton. Nine years later, in Los Santos, under the pseudonym Michael De Santa, Michael lives under witness protection with his family. Gangbanger Franklin Clinton works throughout the city for a corrupt Armenian car seller and meets Michael while trying to repossess his son’s car fraudulently; the two later become friends. When Michael finds Amanda his wife sleeping with her tennis coach, he and Franklin chase the coach to a mansion that Michael angrily destroys. The owner turns out to be Martin Madrazo’s girlfriend, a Mexican drug lord who calls for compensation to prevent further violence. In order to get the money, Michael returns to a life of crime, enlisting Franklin as an accomplice. They’re doing a jewelry shop heist to pay off the debt with the help of Michael’s old friend Lester Crest, a handicapped hacker. Trevor, who now lives in a trailer park on the outskirts of Los Santos, emerges from the heist and learns that it was the handiwork of Michael; Trevor assumed that Michael was killed nine years ago in their botched robbery. After tracking down his father, Trevor surprises Michael and reunites with him.

When time goes by, the protagonists ‘ personal lives are beginning to spiral out of control. The increasingly reprehensible behavior of Michael encourages his parents to leave him. Michael comes into conflict with Devin Weston, a self-made billionaire venture capitalist and corporate raider who threatens vengeance after Michael tries to shut down the studio when he becomes a film producer at Richards Majestic’s film studio. Elsewhere, Franklin rescues gangster and former friend Harold “Stretch” Joseph from his friend Lamar Davis, who repeatedly tries to kill Lamar to prove himself to his new brothers. At the same time, Trevor’s relentless efforts to consolidate his control over various black markets in Blaine County see him waging war against The Lost outlaw motorcycle club, several street gangs in Latin America, rival meth dealers, hillbillies, private security firm Merryweather, and Triad kingpin Wei Cheng.
